‘More seagulls than people’: Nine months after reopening, City Square is a ghost town

The redeveloped square has hosted 29 events, but boarded-up shops and few lingering visitors show the new public space has not yet filled out.

The square opposite the Town Hall reopened nine months ago but it’s still largely deserted with the cafe, bar and retail outlets underneath the Westin Hotel facing the square still vacant and boarded up.
