Broadcom Offering Anthropic $42 Billion Loan for AI Chip Leases
The financing ties Broadcom to Anthropic’s infrastructure buildout and could make the AI lab its largest compute customer next year, Reuters reported.
On Thursday, October 1, 2026, Broadcom agreed to lend Anthropic up to $42 billion to finance infrastructure spending, according to the AI company's IPO prospectus disclosed by Reuters.
Broadcom occupies a central role in Anthropic's infrastructure buildout through compute supply, equipment leasing, and financing—distinguishing it from other major investors like Amazon, which primarily provides cloud services.
The convertible notes cover approximately one-third of Anthropic's $125.2 billion commitment for a five-year lease of TPU computing capacity, with the company depositing cash into restricted accounts for Broadcom.
Anthropic disclosed that Broadcom's dual role as hardware supplier and financier creates "potential conflicts of interest" that might affect computing access, while payment defaults could trigger immediate lease obligations.
Seaport Research analyst Jay Goldberg said, "Nvidia is putting in place a massive amount of its balance sheet, and Broadcom is having to follow suit," as Anthropic readies an IPO potentially valued at $2 trillion.
The documents of the initial public offer prospectus of Anthropic shares detail extensive partnerships with a small group of large technology companies.
