Patriots' Mike Vrabel Calls Out Official After Being Penalized During Win over Bills
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during Sunday's 29-26 victory over the Buffalo Bills after arguing a defensive holding call against cornerback Marcus Jones.
Vrabel approached the referee and used profanity to criticize the holding penalty, which moved Buffalo from the 16-yard line to the 5-yard line and set up a touchdown for Josh Allen.
Referee Bill Vinovich stated the coach's language "crossed a line" and explained, "It's not something that is going to happen twice." No warning was issued prior to the penalty.
Vrabel apologized but defended his frustration, claiming he has "said that 87 times" as a head coach. He now faces potential NFL fines similar to a $14,069 penalty issued to Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur in 2024.
The penalty briefly tied the game at 14-14 before the Patriots secured the 29-26 victory. The NFL will announce disciplinary fines for Week 4 games as Vrabel awaits potential financial consequences.
