Two drivers of Mercedes AMG cars file class action lawsuit over an alleged burn hazard in its logo

The plaintiffs say the raised AMG seat logo caused first- and second-degree burns and seek medical costs, damages and logo removal for other owners.

  • Two drivers filed a class action lawsuit earlier this week in U.S. District Court of California's Western division, alleging the raised metallic AMG logo on front seats is reasonably expected to contact an occupant's upper back, neck, or shoulder.
  • Lahijani reported second-degree burns on May 31 after entering his leased 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class wearing a tank top, with a board-certified dermatologist documenting the injury as AMG inscribed on his skin.
  • Roughly six weeks later, Chatsworth resident Karendeep Karina Bath received similar burns while wearing a sleeveless top; a mark in the shape of the AMG logo darkened and became visible on her skin, consistent with a thermal contact burn.
  • Plaintiffs seek compensation for medical expenses, pain, suffering, and emotional distress, alongside costs for Mercedes to remove the logo from other owners' vehicles. Mercedes-Benz could not be reached immediately for comment.
  • Mercedes-Benz USA and parent company Daimler agreed to pay $149.6 million in December to settle allegations the automaker secretly installed emission-control devices in more than 211,000 diesel vehicles between 2008 and 2016.
