- Defense attorney Elizabeth Mullin wrote that Geri's actions stemmed from untreated bipolar disorder, though his demands included money, an "expatriation flight" to Japan, and the removal of Arizona from the United States.
- Balancing public danger with Geri's "very serious mental health issues," Moss noted prosecutors' evidence that the defendant threatened to destroy landmarks including the White House, the Supreme Court, and the Washington Monument.
- Following a March guilty plea to felony counts of illegal possession of a destructive device and extortion, the sentence mandates three years of supervised release for Geri after his prison term.
