Beloved Culver CityBus Driver Shot, Killed; Search Underway for Gunman
Police said a passenger shot the driver during an altercation, and the man in his 40s later died at a hospital.
A Culver City bus driver was fatally shot during an altercation in Mar Vista on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, around 5:15 p.m., prompting a police investigation.
The shooting occurred near Centinela Avenue and Mitchell Avenue when a passenger allegedly shot the driver during a dispute and fled on a bicycle.
Investigators are reviewing internal surveillance video from the bus, which carried four people including the driver and suspect, as the gunman remained at large Thursday night.
Culver City Mayor Freddy Puza announced suspension of all Culver CityBus service through the weekend, calling the killing a "senseless act of violence."
The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation and appealing for public assistance to locate the unidentified suspect.
