Student Dies After Falling From Building at Highland Park School
Police said the student’s fall is under investigation and there is no evidence of foul play.
On Wednesday, a male student died after falling from a fourth-story building at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities placed the campus on lockdown shortly after the incident occurred near 1 p.m. to conduct a death investigation; LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes noted there is 'no evidence of foul play.'
While social media videos show a classroom confrontation preceding the fall, police have not released details on the circumstances, and authorities have not confirmed a connection between the events.
Principal Marine Davtyan messaged families that campus gates remained locked during the investigation, stating, 'All procedures are being implemented according to district policy.'
By around 4 p.m. Wednesday, students began reuniting with parents on the sidewalk, as the Los Angeles Unified School District continues to cooperate with the ongoing death investigation.
Paramedics took the injured young man from Benjamin Franklin High School to a hospital, where he died; the incident in Higland Park is under investigation.
