Man Charged with Murder of Irish Woman in Melbourne
Police say the accused and victim knew each other, and forensic teams recovered evidence as homicide detectives investigated the death.
On Saturday, a 45-year-old man appeared before Melbourne Magistrates' Court charged with murder in the death of Annmarie Reilly, an Irish woman found dead at a Ferntree Gully residence on Friday.
Emergency services were called to Ferntree Gully Road just before 10am on Friday and located the 39-year-old mother of three with serious injuries; she was declared deceased at the scene.
Homicide Squad detectives arrested the suspect nearby wearing a hazmat suit, and Police stated it is believed the two parties were known to each other.
The suspect was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court again on 23 February 2027, while the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance.
Police stated there is "no active threat" to the community, as cousin John O'Reilly wrote on social media: "Rest in peace to my cousin Annmarie. God look over your children at this sad time.
