Man arrested after Vancouver convenience store clerk shot during doorway conversation

- CCTV footage reviewed by VPD Major Crime detectives showed the suspect shooting Ali during an attempted robbery near Main Street and 16th Avenue, enabling officers to identify the assailant.
- Kamloops RCMP took Sorensen-Avila into custody on an unrelated matter the same day, while a GoFundMe campaign raised over $36,000 for Ali, whom Market owners call "the heart of Main Street."
- The BC Prosecution Service approved charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon against Sorensen-Avila, who remains in custody in Kamloops awaiting a bail hearing.
- Constable Darren Wong stated that gun violence in Mount Pleasant is "deeply concerning," though police do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the community.
