Laurie Daley Steps Down as NSW Blues Coach After Origin Victory
Daley says he has made up his mind as NSWRL speaks with candidates, with a successor possibly chosen by Wednesday.
On Monday, Laurie Daley officially announced he is stepping down as NSW Blues coach following his State of Origin series triumph in Brisbane last month.
Daley concludes his second stint after leading NSW to a 2-1 series victory, with NSWRL chief executive David Trodden crediting him as one of the state's greatest player-coaches.
Despite intense scrutiny through the first two games, Daley secured a 30-12 victory at Lang Park in game three and famously urged critics to 'show some balls' over their coverage.
NSWRL officials aim to lock in a successor as early as Wednesday, with Daley publicly endorsing assistants Matt King and Boyd Cordner as candidates who understand the position's scrutiny.
While Penrith coach Ivan Cleary ruled himself out until after 2027, NSWRL officials confirmed they have had no contact with Michael Maguire despite speculation he sought the role.
