Australia Coach Walters Heading to St Helens After World Cup
Walters will stay with Australia through the Rugby League World Cup before taking over St Helens on a three-year contract.
On Thursday, St Helens confirmed the appointment of Australian Kangaroos head coach Kevin Walters on a three-year deal, with his contract beginning after the Rugby League World Cup.
Walters will lead Australia through the World Cup before departing for England, marking his return to full-time club coaching following his controversial exit from the Brisbane Broncos at the end of 2024.
St Helens aims to build around star player Tristan Sailor, whom Walters previously coached at Brisbane; Sailor has played all 59 games for the Saints but never started the same position more than 27 times.
Walters said, "I look forward to being a part of Super League in 2027 with the Saints," emphasizing his goal to blend coaching experience into the winning culture of the club.
Chairman Eamonn McManus described the signing as a major statement of ambition for St Helens, as Walters replaces former coach Paul Rowley who departed last month.
