CFTC is investigating Kinzinger’s Kalshi trades related to Biden pardons

The platform is reviewing whether Kinzinger’s wagers broke rules against trading on contracts involving his own pardon, according to Politico.

  • The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is examining trades made by former Representative Adam Kinzinger in late 2024 and early 2025 on his own pardon. Kalshi is reportedly conducting its own review of the account activity.
  • Kinzinger, a Republican and prominent Trump critic, received a preemptive pardon from President Joe Biden last year. He traded less than $1,000 on two pardon-related Kalshi markets while a private citizen.
  • Kinzinger denied engaging in insider trading, stating he followed Kalshi rules and had no advance knowledge of pardons. Screenshots show he wagered $669 and netted $823 on the pardon bets.
  • Kalshi recently fined political candidates for betting on their own campaigns, while the CFTC settled cases with a former Trump White House teleprompter operator and former Representative George Santos for improper trades.
  • A bipartisan coalition of 44 states urged the CFTC to rein in prediction platforms. Kinzinger himself wrote in November 2025 that such sites are a "corruption time bomb" and a "threat to democracy.
