Tories Renewed and Different Since 2024 Defeat, Says Badenoch Before Conference
Kemi Badenoch says the party has a growing policy agenda as Conservatives trail Labour and Reform UK in polls.
On Sunday, Opposition Leader Kemi Badenoch arrived at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham with her husband, Hamish Badenoch, as the annual gathering runs through Wednesday.
Mrs Badenoch enters her second year of leadership as the party polls behind Labour and Reform UK, insisting the Conservative Party is "new and different" from the version defeated in 2024.
Senior Tories, including deputy leader Alex Burghart, shadow housing secretary Katie Lam, and Conservative chairman Kevin Hollinrake, joined the leader to contrast their plans against Prime Minister Andy Burnham, whom Mrs Badenoch criticized for avoiding tough decisions.
Despite Prime Minister Burnham insisting last week he plans to wait until 2029, campaigners remain nervous about potential early elections, while Mrs Badenoch dismissed Labour's polling bounce noting they "lost the prime minister" two years ago.
The party intends to use this week to outline a growing policy agenda, distinguishing itself from Labour, Reform, the Greens, Lib Dems, and other rivals as Mrs Badenoch seeks to demonstrate renewal.
