Farage 'Not Being Listened to' on Safety Threats, Deputy Says After Terror Plot Charge
Counterterrorism police said Joshua Kerry faces one count of preparation of terrorist acts as ministers review protections for politicians.
- On Friday, the Crown Prosecution Service charged Joshua Kerry, 28, with one count of preparation of terrorist acts, including allegedly targeting Reform Party Leader Nigel Farage.
- Kerry was previously charged with the July 8 murder of Reform spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe, who was struck 21 times with a hammer at her Devon home.
- Reform deputy Richard Tice told the BBC that Farage has long warned about security risks, stating it is "upsetting" that he was "not being believed, not being listened to."
- Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed "profound sympathies" for Farage and stated the development "raises serious questions about the security of those in public life," vowing to update MPs on protections.
- Security for politicians remains heightened following the 2016 killing of MP Jo Cox and 2021 stabbing of Conservative David Amess, while Counter Terrorism Policing recently reopened a probe into a firebomb attack at Farage's home.
