The abrupt closure of the Merwede Bridge near Gorinchem comes as a bolt from the blue for transport companies. For Arjan Maat, owner and director of Maat Transport from Alblasserdam, the limit has been reached. "We are really completely fed up with it now."
Rijkswaterstaat will begin enforcing the truck ban on the Merwedebrug sooner than expected. Cameras that make it possible to identify offenders will be installed this weekend and put into operation immediately. Previously, enforcement was not scheduled to start until Monday.
