Rail Firm Warns of Disruption for York Passengers Due to ‘Extreme Heat’
EMR said high temperatures will force temporary timetable changes, with some regional services suspended and others slowed to keep the network operating safely.
East Midlands Railway suspended regional services between Sheffield and Liverpool on Wednesday and Thursday, August 12-13, to maintain fleet availability amid extreme temperatures affecting Derbyshire.
A heatwave affecting England and Wales is causing travel disruption, with temperatures expected to reach 38°C; the Met Office warned extreme heat can buckle rail lines and sag overhead power lines.
EMR also suspended regional services between Nottingham and Worksop and Nottingham and Leicester from midday Thursday, as Customer Experience Director Philippa Cresswell urged customers to travel before noon to avoid the hottest part of the day.
