Lopez Accounts for Five TDs as Wake Forest Beats Stanford 57-3
Gio Lopez passed for 265 yards and ran for 88 as Wake Forest piled up more than 500 yards of offense, officials said.
On Saturday, Gio Lopez accounted for five touchdowns as Wake Forest dominated Stanford 57-3 in record-setting fashion. Lopez ran for three scores and passed for two more in the dominant ACC victory.
The Demon Deacons entered following an upset victory over Louisville, while The Cardinal struggled to sustain offensive production. Stanford faced their second road test in three weeks.
Lopez ran for 88 yards and passed for 265 yards, leading Wake Forest to more than 500 yards of total offense. Deuce Lawrence added a 12-yard touchdown run on the team's first possession.
Stanford managed only 197 yards of total offense and a 43-yard field goal from Emmet Kenney, extending their school-record road losing streak to 13 games. Linebacker Matt Rose's absence compounded defensive struggles.
Victory positions the Demon Deacons to move closer to the Top 25, marking their largest margin of victory in an ACC game. Wake Forest begins a two-game road trip next weekend.
