CEO and President of Good Good Golf Ousted After Criticized Driver ad, Reports Say
The company said the ad was meant as parody, but partners cut ties and retailers removed merchandise after criticism spread online.
On Wednesday, Good Good Golf CEO Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery departed the company following intense backlash over a controversial advertisement. Co-founder Nahid Giga will serve as interim CEO.
The controversy stems from a promotional video for a Callaway driver depicting a man shoving a woman to the ground. Good Good claimed the ad was intended to parody the horror movie "Obsession."
Retailers including Golf Galaxy and Dick's Sporting Goods removed merchandise from shelves, while the PGA Tour and Golf Channel terminated partnerships. Good Good also withdrew its sponsorship of a PGA Tour event in Austin, Texas.
Founder Garrett Clark called the commercial "the worst ad known to man," while Kendrick stated, "We made a mistake, and as CEO of Good Good, I own it."
Launched as a YouTube channel in 2020, Good Good became a major golf content creator featuring 12 content creators; the brand now faces rebuilding its reputation and partnerships under interim CEO Giga.
The crisis began with an advertising campaign to promote a new golf club.
