Healthier Halloween? Hershey Expanding Savory Trick-or-Treat Snack Line
Hershey is expanding Halloween offerings with salty snacks and zero-sugar products as early-season sales of snack-size sweets rose in double digits.
Hershey expanded its Halloween trick-or-treat lineup to include salty snacks like SkinnyPop, Pirate's Booty, and LesserEvil, responding to health-conscious consumers seeking alternatives to traditional sweets ahead of October 31.
Hershey's 'Unwrapping Halloween' report, created with Morning Consult, highlights how GLP-1 weight-loss drugs and health-conscious consumers are reshaping seasonal snacking habits, prompting candy makers to expand beyond traditional sweets.
Dan Mohnshine, Hershey's vice president for demand creation, strategy and innovation, said artificial intelligence accelerated development by removing "about three months" from the typical timeline, expanding the innovation pipeline 75% over nine months.
Preparing for the growing 'trunk-or-treat' trend, the company is readying small, individually wrapped pieces, which Mohnshine said are "the key to remaining relevant" for families gathering to exchange treats.
Despite the health-driven shift, chocolate remains the preferred Halloween snack, though Hershey's Zero Sugar business grew around 4.3 times from 2020 through 2025 as consumers increasingly seek sugar-free alternatives.
