HBO Orders DC's "Gorilla Grodd" Show
HBO Max announced Friday an 8-episode, straight-to-series order for 'The People v. Gorilla Grodd,' a mockumentary from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television.
Showrunners Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, creators of Netflix's 'American Vandal,' frame the comedy as a 'true' crime docuseries following Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen investigating Gorilla Grodd's murder conviction.
Superman actor Skyler Gisondo reprises his role as Olsen, starring alongside Jimmy Tatro as Grodd and returning 'Superman' cast members Beck Bennett , Mikaela Hoover , and Wendell Pierce .
DC Studios Co-Chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran described the project as a lighter, 'fun world to explore' compared to the recent gritty series 'Lanterns.'
Recent reports indicate the studio is resetting its development slate, with projects like a 'Wonder Woman' prequel and an Amanda Waller series no longer in development.
The creator and Peter Safran are betting on a production of eight episodes in false documentary format, starring Skyler Gisondo in the role of journalist Jimmy Olsen
