Hate Crimes Against Jewish New Yorkers Surge Amid Heightened Antisemitism
Confirmed anti-Jewish offenses reached 205, or 56.9% of all hate crimes, even as major felonies fell 12.7%, police said.
New York City recorded 205 anti-Jewish hate crimes during the first seven months of 2026, an 8.5% increase from the same period in 2025, with these incidents making up more than half of all reported hate crimes in the city.
The rise in anti-Jewish incidents comes despite overall declines in major crimes such as murders and shootings, highlighting a different trend within the city's public safety data.
Jewish community members and advocacy groups have expressed growing concerns about antisemitism, saying recent events and the broader global climate have contributed to increased fears about safety.
City officials said they are working to address antisemitism through enforcement and prevention efforts, while emphasizing that combating hate crimes remains a priority.
