Halifax Banking App Starts Closing Today as Millions Told to Switch to Lloyds
Customers are being moved to the Lloyds app, while account numbers and sort codes are expected to stay the same, the bank said.
The Halifax banking app begins closing today, October 5, as Lloyds Banking Group consolidates the brand under Lloyds, requiring customers to migrate to the Lloyds app for digital banking.
Lloyds Banking Group confirmed earlier this year it would retire the Halifax brand and consolidate operations under Lloyds, with branches set to rebrand or relocate to nearby Lloyds locations during 2027.
Founded in 1853 in Yorkshire as the Halifax Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society, the brand became one of Britain's largest building societies and mortgage lenders; Lloyds Banking Group has promised no job cuts during the transition.
Customers will retain their account numbers and sort codes, and Lloyds says the migration is simple: "In just a few easy steps, you'll be up and running, with everything you need ready for you."
The Halifax app will officially shut down on October 31, giving customers until then to migrate to the Lloyds app where they can manage accounts, savings, mortgages, credit cards, loans and insurance.
