Google Gemini sets new limits for free users: What changes, which features will remain available; check

  • Starting October 9, Google will limit free Gemini users to the 3.5 Flash-Lite model, removing access to 3.6 Flash and 3.1 Pro. AI Plus subscribers will lose Pro access, retaining only Flash-Lite and Flash.
  • Following compute-based usage changes in May, Google is refining Gemini access tiers across subscription levels. There are no regressions for AI Pro and AI Ultra, which maintain current access.
  • The app will add low, medium, and high effort levels for each available model in October. Subscribers paying $19.99 monthly will gain access to the Deep Think option for "maximum parallel reasoning."
  • Users on the $4.99 per month plan will receive an email detailing when changes take effect. Google announced that the new Argon model is coming to AI Ultra, though its tier classification remains unspecified.
  • These effort levels align Gemini with capabilities currently available in Google AI Studio and Antigravity. The company has yet to specify whether Argon will be classified as a Pro model or occupy a new tier.
