Gunmen Attack Plateau Mining Site, Kill Three Women, Injure Others
Attackers opened fire on workers at a mining site and killed three women, as violence persists despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew.
- Gunmen killed three women and injured another person at a mining site in Rakum, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday. The attackers stormed the facility at approximately 4:30 pm before fleeing the scene.
- This incident occurred amid a resurgence of violence in parts of Plateau, particularly Mangu, Bokkos, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi. The Plateau State Government recently imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew across these areas to contain frequent attacks.
- Survivor John Sabo identified the assailants as Fulani men who emerged from nearby bushes to open fire on workers. John Silas, a community member, also confirmed the attack occurred during evening mining activities.
- Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association , condemned the violence from Jos. He stated the attack shows perpetrators remain unwilling to cease hostilities and allow peace to return.
- Authorities have not yet issued a statement regarding arrests, though The Plateau State Government previously urged residents to remain calm. Community members continue to appeal for security operatives to intensify efforts tracking down the attackers.
