'It Feels Like a Homecoming': BTS Army Takes over Toronto Ahead of Stadium Shows
Three Korean-chef-led restaurants are serving limited-time dishes and cocktails with BTS references as Toronto fans gather for the group’s concerts.
As global K-pop superstars BTS prepare for sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, Toronto restaurants are launching themed menus and cocktails to celebrate the band's first city visit since 2015.
Since debuting in 2013, the South Korean group evolved into international icons, with their massive fanbase known as ARMY hosting events and activations across the city to foster community bonds ahead of performances.
Eateries including Lyla, No Vacancy, and 156 ONE FIVE SIX are rolling out creative tributes, ranging from a $60 wagyu steak dish to a $21 cocktail inspired by the expression "I purple you."
The City of Toronto has temporarily renamed a stretch of Yonge Street to "BTS Boulevard," while hundreds of fans visit an official merchandise pop-up store on Bloor Street that opened last week.
About 100,000 attendees are expected across the two concert nights, an experience organizer Sokvin Vann, who co-runs BTS Army Toronto, describes as a long-awaited homecoming after the band's 2020 Toronto shows were cancelled.
