Frost risk as temperatures expected to dip near freezing
Environment Canada warned temperatures could dip below freezing overnight, putting cold-sensitive plants, trees and crops at risk.
On Monday, Environment Canada issued a yellow frost advisory for Southern Ontario, spanning from Windsor to Ottawa, as temperatures are expected to drop near the freezing mark overnight.
Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson explained this marks the season's first frost warning, stating "temperatures overnight tonight and into Tuesday morning will be the chilliest we've had so far this fall."
Residents are advised to take preventative measures, including covering plants in frost-prone areas, as "damage to plants, trees and crops is possible," according to the advisory.
Forecasts predict a low of 3 C Monday night with northwest winds of 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h, though conditions are expected to warm significantly by mid-week.
Daytime highs are forecast to reach 23 C by Wednesday, with meteorologists anticipating a warmer than average October for the region despite this initial cold snap.
