Former Winners James and Stuart Shortlisted for Booker Prize
Two former winners are among six finalists, and the prize carries a £50,000 award, judges said.
- On Tuesday, judges announced the 2026 Booker Prize shortlist, selecting six titles from 163 submissions that include works by two-time winners Marlon James and Douglas Stuart.
- Chaired by Dame Mary Beard, the judging panel described the selection process as 'a tussle,' with Beard noting that agreeing on the final six 'has been, to put it mildly, hard work.'
- American writer Elizabeth Strout returns as a three-time nominee, while 81-year-old M. John Harrison's 'The End of Everything' could make him the oldest winner in the award's 57-year history.
- The winner will be revealed on November 9 at a ceremony in London broadcast live on BBC Radio 4's Front Row, receiving a trophy and £50,000 .
- Poet Raymond Antrobus said the final choices are connected because they 'as well as having heart, also took risk,' asserting these 'very human books' cannot be replicated by artificial intelligence.
