Ex-NU Regent Elizabeth O’Connor Given 1-Year Sentence for Felony DUI
She received one year in prison after pleading guilty to DUI causing serious bodily injury, with her license revoked for five years.
On Monday, former Nebraska regent Elizabeth O'Connor was sentenced to one year in prison for a May 2025 DUI crash that left an Omaha grandmother with life-threatening injuries.
Prosecutors stated O'Connor's blood-alcohol content reached.321%, more than four times the legal limit. O'Connor noted she struggled with postpartum depression and her father's death around the time of the crash.
The collision ended the victim's 25-year career with Omaha Public Schools. Omaha City Prosecutor Kevin Slimp reported the grandmother requires daily assistance and has made limited progress in physical therapy.
Beyond the prison sentence, the court mandated 18 months of supervised release and a five-year license revocation. O'Connor resigned from her positions as a University of Nebraska regent and Douglas County deputy attorney.
O'Connor, who has a 2-year-old daughter, received one day of credit for time served. She publicly acknowledged struggling in ways she had "not fully recognized or addressed" before the incident.
