Five more people arrested over A66 crash that killed seven people
Police say the investigation has led to 17 arrests and two charges as officers probe links to organised crime, weapons and drugs.
On Tuesday, Cleveland Police arrested five more individuals regarding the fatal A66 crash that killed seven people, including two serving officers, bringing total arrests to 17.
The fatal Saturday collision involved a Volkswagen Passat traveling the wrong way that struck an armed response vehicle; police previously linked the vehicle's occupants to "serious and organised criminal activity."
Suspects aged 16, 18, 21, 55, and 23 face charges including participation in an organised crime group, assisting an offender, and making threats to kill, according to Cleveland Police.
Inquests for the two killed officers were scheduled for Thursday, while Cameron George, 26, remains in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on September 21.
More than £800,000 has been raised for the families of the deceased officers, while Chief Constable Wayne Fox described the investigation as "fast-moving and complex" with links to serious organised crime.
