Feared dacoit Jagan Gurjar found dead in Ajmer jail; police suspect murder inside high-security prison
Police suspect Jagan Gurjar was strangled with a towel after a sudden altercation with another inmate, while officials ruled out gang rivalry.
On Monday, notorious Chambal dacoit Jagan Gurjar was found dead in Ajmer High Security Jail, with police suspecting he was strangled with a towel inside his barrack.
A resident of Dholpur's Bhavtipura village, Gurjar was a dreaded dacoit with more than 100 criminal cases across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh; he had been lodged since March.
The incident occurred while Gurjar and his cellmate, undertrial prisoner Vishnu, were locked in their barrack; staff discovered him unresponsive during a routine inspection around 3:00 pm.
Ajmer Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agrawal stated Vishnu allegedly confessed to the killing; preliminary investigation suggests a sudden altercation, while officials rule out gang rivalry.
Initial examination indicated death by strangulation with no external injury marks; High Security Jail Superintendent Parasmal Jangid confirmed no third inmate was present during the incident.
