Duchess Sophie Goes Skiing in the Heatwave - Cementing Her Royal Snow Bunny Status
Sophie skied on artificial slopes and tried laser-rifle practice as AFPST said its patronage will help expand programmes for wounded and injured veterans.
On Tuesday, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead to mark her appointment as royal patron of the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team, skiing on artificial slopes.
Supporting wounded, injured, and sick military personnel and veterans, the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team uses adaptive skiing, snowboarding, and Nordic disciplines to rebuild confidence, resilience, and community.
During the visit, the Duchess met coaches, volunteers, and board members while attempting target practice with a laser rifle, maintaining her reputation as one of the most active senior working royals with more than 70 patronages.
Elizabeth Winfield, AFPST's Chief Operations Officer, remarked: "The Duchess's patronage marks a defining moment in AFPST's journey. It strengthens our ability to grow, to reach more veterans and to deliver the life-changing programmes that sit at the heart of our charity."
Future initiatives include Project Vidda, an Arctic expedition for amputee veterans, building on Project Volya's success, which trained 24 Ukrainian veterans in the Carpathian Mountains to expand adaptive snowsport rehabilitation programs.
