Delhi Police Busts Syndicate Trading Counterfeit Cancer Drugs, Arrest 17
Police recovered 588 filled vials and nearly Rs 50 lakh in cash as they traced a wider supply network across several states.
On August 20, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested 17 individuals for operating an interstate syndicate involved in the illegal procurement, storage, and sale of counterfeit and diverted high-value anti-cancer medicines.
The syndicate acquired expensive drugs through hospital diversions, government warehouse theft, and counterfeit sources, removing batch numbers and maximum retail prices with acetone before repackaging medicines in old cartons.
Investigators recovered 588 filled vials, 3,021 units of other medicines, and nearly Rs 50 lakh in cash during simultaneous raids, with seized materials valued at around Rs 9 crore.
The syndicate included nursing staff and former oncology assistants like Deepak and Jaswant Sharma, who allegedly diverted patient medicines, while Abhishek Vaishya supplied diverted drugs through unauthorized channels.
Officials are examining the financial trail through seized registers and cash transactions while interrogating suspects to map the distribution network and identify final buyers of the diverted medications.
