Data center operators in North Carolina may face new tariffs next year in Duke Energy region

The utility says the charges would help pay for electricity supply and grid upgrades as data center demand grows.

The state’s Utilities Commission is seeking proposals for a large load tariff — essentially a new, standardized set of electric rates that data center operators will have to pay if they’re powered by Duke Energy.
