'Da Vinci rapist' Robert Greens could be monitored for life after latest conviction
Judge Lord Mulholland said a report is needed before deciding whether Robert Greens, convicted of multiple rapes, should face lifelong monitoring.
On Wednesday, Judge Lord Mulholland ordered a risk assessment for Robert Greens to determine whether an Order for Lifelong Restriction is appropriate, delaying sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow.
Greens, dubbed the "Da Vinci Code rapist" for a 2006 attack near Rosslyn Chapel, was convicted this summer of rapes committed more than 20 years ago when he was in his early to mid-20s.
Defense counsel Richard Goddard KC argued against an OLR, contending "it cannot be said in this man's case that there is a likelihood" of endangering the public, and suggested an extended sentence instead.
Judge Mulholland clarified that ordering a risk assessment does not guarantee an OLR, stating "I will look at what you say and I will look at whether an OLR is appropriate in this case."
The High Court in Glasgow set a further hearing for November 5 this year, where sentencing will proceed; an OLR would involve potential lifelong monitoring following any custodial period.
