Police investigating suspected arson after car at Liberal MP's home torched
Police are treating the blaze as suspected arson after three vehicles were damaged and no injuries were reported, investigators said.
Early Thursday, Toronto police launched an investigation into a suspected arson after three vehicles caught fire on Fairway Drive, near Bellamy Road North and Lawrence Avenue East in Scarborough.
Liberal MP for Scarborough Centre- Don Valley East Salma Zahid confirmed her vehicle was among those destroyed in the overnight blaze, though her home sustained no damage.
Zahid's son and neighbors contacted 911 after noticing the fire, and firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly while the MP expressed relief that everyone is safe.
No suspect information has been released, and police have not confirmed a specific connection to Zahid's role as an MP while treating the fires as suspected arson.
This incident occurs amid a reported increase in threats against MPs from all parties in recent years, including vandalism at constituency offices across the country.
