Nigel Farage Interviewed by Standards Commissioner over £5m Gift
The commissioner interviewed Nigel Farage for 30 minutes over whether he should have declared a £5 million gift linked to Reform UK donations.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage confirmed he was interviewed last month by parliamentary commissioner for standards Daniel Greenberg regarding a £5 million gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.
Under Commons rules, new MPs must register gifts exceeding £300 received within the previous 12 months, unless the gift "could not be reasonably thought by others" to involve political activities.
Farage insisted the donation was non-political, maintaining he did nothing wrong; he told the Sunday Times he expected the reaction to be "far worse" but felt the magnitude earned "some grudging respect."
Harborne is one of two crypto billionaires, including Ben Delo, who donated £72 million to Reform, and these twin £36 million gifts have reignited calls for a blanket cap on political donations.
The 30-minute interview occurred at the Palace of Westminster last month; separately, Harborne, previously based in Thailand, reportedly registered to vote in Hampshire in June.
