Boeing Engineers, Technical Workers Face Noon Deadline to Vote on Contract Offer
The revised deal includes a 10% guaranteed raise and could avert a strike that would disrupt Boeing’s 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 certification work.
On Thursday, Boeing's largest white-collar union, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace , voted to approve a sweetened four-year contract, averting a potential strike that threatened critical jetliner production.
Members previously rejected an initial proposal in August, with 64% of the professional unit and 72% of the technical unit voting against it, which prompted the union to authorize a strike.
The approved contract guarantees a 10% wage increase effective October 2, followed by 4% annual raises and 2% performance-based hikes, delivering an average 32% pay increase over four years versus 26.5% in the initial offer.
Avoiding a work stoppage allows Boeing to continue critical certification efforts for the 737 MAX 10 and 777X aircraft. Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg had previously warned a strike would financially hurt the company.
While 68% of the professional unit and over 53% of the technical unit supported the deal, SPEEA's negotiating team emphasized work remains to rebuild trust; the union plans to survey members to guide future negotiations.
