CATL Kicks Off Trial Production of Battery Cells in Hungary

- Earlier this year, the Bihar County Government Office ordered a temporary suspension of operations due to occupational safety concerns regarding nickel exposure affecting nine employees; CATL subsequently implemented rigorous health and safety rectifications.
- The Debrecen plant is designed for a total planned annual capacity of 100 GWh, with the first phase currently in trial production at 34 GWh; the company has produced approximately 537,000 battery modules since autumn 2024.
- During this trial phase, engineers will configure, optimize, and validate manufacturing equipment ahead of full-scale series production, while CATL will continuously monitor environmental and safety indicators for submission to Hungarian authorities.
- Once completed, the facility is set to become CATL's largest manufacturing base outside of China, positioning the company to supply leading European car manufacturers and strengthen the continent's electric vehicle supply chain.
