Eight Charged, 18 Firearms Seized in Calgary Organized Crime Investigation
Police say the probe led to 18 firearms, $58,500 in drugs and charges against eight people in a network tied to trafficking and fraud.
On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the Calgary Police Service announced charges against eight people following an 11-month investigation, seizing 18 firearms and $58,500 worth of drugs linked to an organized crime network.
Starting in September 2025, police identified a drug trafficking suspect and uncovered a network involved in firearms offences, prescription fraud, and vehicle re-vinning—the practice of giving stolen vehicles fake identification numbers.
Across 15 search warrants, officers recovered 13 rifles including four hidden in a secret room, two loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun, body armour, and more than 760 rounds of ammunition.
While seven of the eight suspects have been apprehended, police continue searching for 45-year-old Christopher Hayward of Calgary, who faces multiple firearms and drug-trafficking charges.
Staff Sgt. Matt Gow of the Calgary Police Organized Crime Enforcement Unit stated police will continue investigating the origin of seized weaponry and potential connections to other provinces.
