UK Breaks 30-Year Heat Record With 35 Days Above 30°C Ahead of Fifth Heatwave
Forecasters expect up to 36C next week as the UK Health Security Agency keeps heat alerts in place across seven regions.
On Sunday, Frittenden in Kent recorded 30.6°C, marking the 35th day this year at or above 30°C and surpassing the 1995 record of 34 days.
Forecasters said Monday will be slightly cooler, but heatwave conditions will likely return next week with highs near 36°C in East Anglia and the South East.
The Health Security Agency issued yellow heat-health alerts for multiple regions in place until 9pm on Tuesday, with alerts potentially extending as hot weather persists.
While drought-hit England and Wales struggle, Scotland received over 100mm of rain on Friday and Saturday, creating stark regional weather disparities across the UK.
The extreme weather of summer 2026 included two record-breaking heatwaves in May and June that led to more than 2,800 excess deaths, underscoring cumulative seasonal health burden.
