- Following Salian's death after falling from a 14th-floor Mumbai building in 2020, city police filed an Accidental Death Report concluding the case was suicide, a finding her father disputed in his petition.
- Satish Salian, represented by advocate Nilesh Ojha, alleged his daughter was raped and murdered and sought an FIR against Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray over an alleged political cover-up.
- Mumbai police must transfer all case papers to the CBI under the order from Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale, who stated, "In case the investigation reveals that no case is made out, then the CBI shall file the appropriate summary report."
- The court specified that no person shall be treated as an accused without sufficient material gathered during the investigation, while Satish Salian remains at liberty to challenge the final report.
