B.C. Party Leaders Pitch Business Promises on Campaign Trail in Surrey Battleground
The NDP proposed interest-free loans and a youth-job tax credit, while the Conservatives promised tax relief and new red-tape cuts.
On Wednesday, NDP Leader David Eby, Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson, and Green Party Leader Emily Lowan visited Surrey to present competing economic plans midway through the provincial election.
NDP Leader Eby announced a $500-million Small Business Tariff and Wildfire Relief Fund offering interest-free loans of up to $1 million to help companies recover from U.S. tariffs.
Doerkson pledged to exempt 'productive capital' from PST for three years and introduce a 'one-in, two-out' red-tape reduction law requiring elimination of two regulations per new one.
Green Party Leader Lowan proposed a tax on extreme wealth raising $22.2 billion through a one-time levy on fortunes above $50 million, plus provincewide commercial rent protections.
Eby also promised a $5,000 refundable tax credit for businesses hiring youth aged 18 to 30, addressing reduced employment opportunities for young British Columbians affected by tariffs.
