Asylum seeker jailed after posing as teenage boy to groom and rape 13-year-old girl
Khan was also ordered to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely and faces automatic deportation after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
On Monday, Abdul Khan was sentenced to nine and a half years at Nottingham Crown Court after a jury convicted him of two counts of rape and multiple child sexual offences involving a 13-year-old.
Posing as a 14-year-old on Snapchat under the name 'Abs,' Khan groomed the victim before arranging a meeting at a Clifton tram stop in May 2025, where she later realized he was older than claimed.
DNA evidence recovered from the girl's school trousers and messages from a phone seized during a separate grooming investigation linked Khan to the attack, overcoming his denials.
Judge Mark Watson dismissed Khan's identity claims as 'nonsensical,' describing him as deliberately concealing his true age, and ordered his automatic deportation to Afghanistan after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
The victim described feeling 'numb' and experiencing flashbacks, while Nottinghamshire Police Detective Constable Madeleine Johnson labeled Khan an 'opportunistic and predatory offender' who posed a risk to teenage girls.
