Aldi calls on other supermarkets to provide product that 'should be a basic right'
Aldi says 67% of 2,000 UK shoppers back free pads and tampons in supermarket toilets as it urges rivals to follow its lead.
Aldi is urging fellow supermarkets to offer free period products in customer toilets, building on its own initiative launched in March 2025 to increase accessibility.
Collaborating with menstrual equity charity Freedom4Girls, the retailer contacted major UK grocery chains, citing research showing widespread public support for such essential services in restrooms.
According to an Aldi-commissioned survey of 2,000 UK shoppers, 74% of Scottish shoppers believe supermarkets should provide free period products, while 75% view them as everyday bathroom essentials.
Since launching in March 2025, Aldi has provided one million free period products to customers and colleagues without requiring codes, loyalty schemes, or payment.
Freedom4Girls founder Tina Leslie MBE stated that providing these products is a "practical way to help people access what they need discreetly and with dignity." The charity welcomes other retailers taking similar action.
