Walker Retirement Set to Fire up Crows Against Freo
The 36-year-old has kicked a club-record 706 goals in 19 AFL seasons and told teammates he will finish up in the coming weeks.
Adelaide Crows great Taylor Walker announced on Monday he will retire at the end of the AFL finals campaign. The 36-year-old veteran of 316 matches leaves as the club's record-holder with 706 goals.
Walker surfaced as a prospect out of Broken Hill, first linking up with the Crows as a 16-year-old on a scholarship in 2007. He made his debut in 2009 and captained the club from 2015 to 2019.
Following the death of senior coach Phil Walsh, Walker captained the club to the 2017 grand final. He earned All Australian selection in 2023 and was voted AFL Players' Association Best Captain in 2016 and 2017.
Crows coach Matthew Nicks praised Walker, saying, "He's someone who led through actions as much as words." Nicks added Walker "was prepared to stand up when things were going well and, importantly, he stood tall when they weren't."
Walker previously noted he would be "happy to float off into the sunset" if Adelaide won a premiership. He expressed gratitude, stating, "I'm going to leave the game with a great deal of pride, gratitude and a lifetime of memories.
