Aided 35 Migrants in Lampedusa, 52 Others Drifting at Sea

A group of 35 migrants landed today in Lampedusa, Italy, after being rescued from a boat by the coastguard, while 52 were spotted on a boat in difficulty about 70 miles from the Sicilian island.

The 35 migrants from Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan were rescued by a coastal guard boat and then taken to Lampedusa. Among them were six women. The group had therefore set off in Libya with a dinghy of about seven metres long from Gars Garabulli. In parallel, Alarmphone issued an emergency call for another boat in the central Mediterranean.
