Tears of Relief as 31 Keralites Return From Flood-Hit Nepal
Norka ROOTS said rescue teams have confirmed 60 Keralites safe as search efforts continue for eight others after flash floods in Nepal.
- On Sunday, a 31-member group of Keralites returned safely to Kerala after being stranded in Nepal's flash floods, reuniting with family members at the airport.
- Norka ROOTS reported Friday that 60 of 82 stranded Keralites are safe, though eight remain untraced; the death toll from Nepal's floods rose to 547.
- The group attributed their survival to a 20-minute delay at a Buddha temple, having witnessed furious floods sweep through buildings around 600 feet below them.
- Norka ROOTS CEO Rajesh Madhvan said the agency handed information on the missing eight to the Ministry of External Affairs, with evacuation efforts ongoing for stranded citizens.
- A 23-member Indian team, including 19 Keralites, is currently travelling from Darchen to Saga County in Tibet toward Kathmandu, with plans to reach India by August 31.
