Singer Zubeen Garg died after swimming in Singapore, not scuba diving: Report
Four individuals linked to the yacht outing during which singer Zubeen Garg drowned have been arrested and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said.
- On September 19, singer-musician Zubeen Garg was pulled unconscious from St John's Island and died after being rushed to Singapore General Hospital.
- A video posted on X on September 20 showed Zubeen Garg first wearing a life vest, then removing it before jumping into the water during a yacht outing with more than a dozen people.
- On Wednesday, Assam Police arrested Siddhartha Sharma, Garg's manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, festival organiser, and on October 2 detained co-musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, booking all under BNS provisions including culpable homicide and causing death by negligence.
- The Assam government declared four days of state mourning, tens of thousands gathered in Guwahati as his body was flown back and publicly viewed on September 21, and he was cremated with full state honours on September 23.
- Singapore authorities have handed the autopsy report to the Indian High Commission, with the Singapore Police Force ruling out foul play as the Assam CID/SIT awaits clearance to collect evidence soon.
