Yemen's armed forces say it is conducting strikes against Houthis in Sanaa

The government said tens of thousands of troops are taking part in a planned counteroffensive as fighting spreads beyond Sanaa.

  • On Sunday, Yemen's armed forces conducted strikes against Iran-aligned Houthis in Sanaa and Saada, targeting what military spokesman Colonel Majid described as "vital targets."
  • The strikes followed a Houthi attack on an Aramco facility in Riyadh on Saturday, where Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the group targeted the site with ballistic missiles and drones.
  • Houthi-Affiliated Al-Masirah reported "Saudi enemy aircraft" hit Sanaa with 26 strikes, while the Houthis reported 55 fighters killed and AFP noted 26 government troops died.
  • Fighting has intensified in Taiz, where combatants were reported killed on Friday, as the World Food Programme warned that three-quarters of Yemen's population cannot meet basic food needs.
  • Hostilities resumed this year after Houthis declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, reigniting conflict as spillover from the wider war between Iran and the United States.
