Yemen carried out 20 strikes on Houthi targets in Taiz province, spokesperson says
The strikes targeted Houthi movements, fighters and military vehicles as fighting intensified after a UN-brokered truce largely held since 2022.
- On Friday, Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili reported that warplanes conducted 20 strikes against Houthi targets in Taiz province over three hours.
- Fighting intensified across Taiz, prompting authorities to order closure of 19 roads, including the main route from Sanaa to Taiz, designating them as military operational areas.
- Targets included Houthi movements and military vehicles in Humair, Bani Bakari, Sama, al-Aqrud, Sixtieth Street, al-Aamour, Maidi Bani Hassan, and al-Wazi'iyah, with strikes scoring direct hits.
- Saudi Arabia claims Houthis recently attacked a Medina power station and attempted to target Mecca, though the Houthi-run Saba news agency denied the airstrikes.
- Control over Taiz would grant the Houthis dominance over Yemen's north, tighten their grip on the Red Sea coast, and provide easier access to the government seat in Aden.
